How does Chat with PDF work?

Ask a question about a PDF and get an answer that cites the pages it comes from. The answer comes from an AI model that runs on your computer after a one-time download, or from your own key with Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Mistral, Meta or OpenRouter.

What is sent when I use my own AI key?

Your question and the document’s text go straight from your browser to the provider you chose, under that provider’s terms. superPDF never sees them, and your key is stored encrypted in your browser.

Does the AI cost anything?

AI on your device is free. With your own key, your provider bills you directly, and superPDF adds nothing.

What is MCP?
