Output

A tagged PDF that screen readers can follow through its headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and pictures. Notes under the result list anything that could not be carried over.

What is kept

  • Headings, paragraph styles, bold, italic, underline, colours, alignment and spacing.
  • Numbered and bulleted lists, and tables with merged cells and shading.
  • Pictures with their alternative text, links, page breaks, and the page size and margins.

Limits

No file size or page limit. Everything runs on your device, so very large files are fastest on a computer. superPDF lays the file out itself instead of running Word, so the result is close but not identical. Fonts are replaced with the standard PDF fonts (Helvetica, Times and Courier), so lines and pages can break in different places. Headers and footers, footnotes, comments, charts, SmartArt and drawn shapes, rotation, gradients and effects aren’t drawn. Pictures in formats the browser can’t read (such as EMF) appear as a labelled box. Characters outside the Latin alphabet (such as Greek, Cyrillic, Asian scripts and emoji) are replaced with “?”. Older .doc files need saving as .docx first.
